Building on the theme of its Homes Build Futures public campaign, sector body Homes for Scotland (HFS) has announced the winners of its 2026 awards programme.
With best practice examples spanning the length and breadth of the country, the awards highlight the vast contribution home building makes to Scotland’s social wellbeing, economic growth and prosperity.
The annual event, attended by c900 senior representatives from across the home building sector in Edinburgh on Friday 15 May, featured an “In Conversation” session with Sir Chris Hoy (sponsored by Campion Homes and Keepmoat Homes). The inspirational talk saw broadcaster Stephen Jardine engaging with the former Olympian on his extraordinary journey of motivation, leadership, resilience and success as well as powerful personal insights following his cancer diagnosis. Hosting and entertainment were provided by impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner.
Headline Home Builder of the Year titles were awarded to four of Scotland’s home builders, with winners in nine additional categories also announced. This included two people-focused awards – apprentice bricklayer Dean Murdoch of Springfield Properties was named “One to Watch” winner, praised for the passion and determination shown at an early stage in his career, while Pauline Mills, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, was the recipient of a Judges’ special recognition award for her strategic vision and leadership approach.
Those scooping the Home Builder of the Year awards were: Miller Homes – Large, Campion Homes – Medium, GS Brown Construction – Small and Wheatley Group – Affordable Housing Provider.
The headline awards were decided by an independent judging panel following an application process and senior management interviews, with criteria including approach to people, partnership, quality, health and safety and sustainability.
Chair of the independent judging panel Sarah Stanger, Senior Advisor at the Housing Growth Partnership, said:
“With this now my fifth year of involvement in the awards and second as Chair of the judging panel, I was hugely encouraged by both another high volume of quality submissions and the geographical spread of those entries.
“Judging across key criteria including place, design and sustainability; community engagement and impact; quality and innovation, the independent panel was again faced with a very tough task. Visits to shortlisted developments proved key in bringing the entries to life as we met not only clearly passionate and highly professional site staff who take great pride in building futures for communities across Scotland, but also their customers. In addition, interviews for our headline awards further demonstrated how HFS member companies representing all tenures and sizes are going the extra mile to deliver more quality homes.
